Videocam Found in Bastrop Scout Camp Shower Leads To Employee Being Fired

July 16, 2014 by Archive

BASTROP, Texas (AP) _ A worker at a Cub Scout Camp in Central Texas has been fired after a camera was found in a staff shower and some individuals were videotaped.

The Bastrop County Sheriff’s Office is considering charges against the 24-year-old man who worked at Camp Tom Wooten, about 30 miles east of Austin.

Another staffer discovered the GoPro camera on June 21. The camp director confiscated the camera and contacted law enforcement.

Council official Jon Yates says the suspect’s registration with the Boy Scouts of America has been revoked and he was fired. The suspect worked at the camp since 2006.

A letter was sent Tuesday from the Capitol Area Council to parents of Cub Scouts who attended camp. Anyone with information about the case was asked to contact sheriff’s officials.
