Authorities are investigating a crash in Washington County that killed an infant and seriously injured another child on Thursday.
According to Texas DPS, the driver of the car was driving her 2006 Chevy Equinox eastbound on FM 2621 when she could not properly take a curve in the road about 8 miles north of Brenham. The vehicle left the road and crashed through a fence, overturning multiple times. During the rollover, an infant and 3 year old child were ejected from the vehicle.
The infant was flown by LifeFlight to Houston where he later succumbed to his injuries. The 3 year old child was taken to CHI St. Joseph in Bryan, where officials say he was last known to be in serious condition.
Authorities say there were child safety seats on scene, but appears they may have been installed incorrectly. They also said the two children were not properly secured in the seats.
The driver was identified as Albany Cooper and she was taken to CHI in Bryan along with a passenger, identified as 19 year old Diamond Phillips of Fort Worth. One other child was in the vehicle, a 1 year old, but was not seriously injured.
Texas DPS is investigating the accident. Finding will be turned over to the Washington County District Attorney’s Office, where they will decide if any charges will be filed.
