Wastewater Spill in Bryan Blamed on Power Outage

July 18, 2014 by Archive

Lightning and heavy rainfall Thursday night caused a power outage at Bryan’s Burton Creek wastewater treatment plant, which is located near the creek and University.

Mark Jurica with the city of Bryan says during the 72 minute period, 600,000 gallons of wastewater was not treated.

Jurica says cleanup will take several days as drainage points and manhole covers will have to checked citywide.

Jurica expects and wants to hear from homeowners and businesspeople who experienced a backup.

The phone number to call nights and weekends is the BTU 24 hour line at 822-3777. During regular business hours, call the public works department customer service line at 209-5900.

City officials have notified TCEQ, the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality.
