Although Mother Nature decided to literally take a dump on the majority of Navasota’s 5th Annual Texas Birthday Bash, the assistant city manager told City Council that the event went incredibly well, Saturday’s inclement weather notwithstanding.
“Just lookin’ at it,” Shawn Myatt reported, “we’re going to be around 4,500 to 5,000 for Friday night, and that’s really good for Friday Night. Saturday the weather didn’t cooperate with us this year, we were down to an actual count around 3,500.”
And the bad weather wasn’t the only negative factor this year. Myatt said that, in light of the current economic situation, he was quite surprised that the event drew 14 sponsors, as well as 31 craft and food vendors, with only one no-show.
All things considered, Myatt concluded, it was a great event. There were a few hiccups on Friday, but Saturday went especially well, even though the weather didn’t cooperate with us.
Apparently those who did come had a good time, too, Myatt reported, with $1,400 worth of water and soda consumed, $1,900 worth of ball caps, t-shirts and other Texas Birthday Bash merchandise sold, and a whopping $15,000 dollar profit on the beer consumed, resulting in $7,000 for the city’s coffers.
And as City Manager Brad Stafford noted, Neal McCoy put us on Facebook a lot.
