A Grimes County man, arrested after a Facebook post went viral in March last year, has been sentenced to 25 years in prison.
According to the grimes County District Attorney’s Office, 34 year old Joseph “JoJo” Reyes of Bedias pled guilty on Monday to aggravated sexual assault of a child, and sexual assault of a child.
The original incident stemmed from November 2018, when officials received information that Reyes had fathered two children with an underage female.
DNA samples were pulled, where Reyes was interviewed and confessed to the abuse. Their investigation revealed Reyes had begun sexually abusing the victim since she was under the age of 14. DNA tests eventually confirmed Reyes as the father of the two children in question.
In March 2020, Reyes left his residence with the victim. After a Facebook post was shared numerous times, Reyes was apprehended 24 hours later, at a traffic stop in Kansas. In the car was the victim, and the two children. That original story can be found here.
Reyes was extradited back to Texas, and sentenced to 25 years in prison on Monday afternoon. Reyes must also register as a sex offender in Texas for the remainder of his life.
