The Grimes County Commissioner’s Court has denied a tax abatement request from a new hotel moving to Navasota.
Commissioner Phillip Cox explained recently the decision to deny the request from Candlewood Suites, which followed the court meeting in a committee.
“It was determined at that meeting…the request would be invalid, or disqualified, because of the legal requirements up front, required from the the City of Navasota, to designate the space as a reinvestment zone,” said Cox. “So far, as of today, that has not happened, yet.”
The developer, Sandeep Patel of AAKAS, made the request in December, and it was sent for review then.
The project itself is an estimated investment of $8,000,000, and would create 15 new jobs.
